Mozart’s last opera, La clemenza di Tito, contains some of his most sublime arias. It also explores the opposing forces of vengeance and mercy. Written for the coronation of Holy Roman Emperor Leopold II as King of Bohemia, this opera shows the mercy (clemenza) of an emperor: Roman Emperor Titus pardons two men who conspired to murder him. Spend an afternoon discovering the many facets of this extraordinary opera through brief lectures and engaging discussions.
Private performances by artists from Chicago Opera Theater will augment the experience. Afterwards, participants will attend opening night of La clemenza di Tito.
